Costume Design—The Grouch
The Grouch is a play by Menander who is one of the most well kown playwrights of New Comedy. This production drew on the formulaic plot structure that many comedies throughout the ages, including sitcoms, has drawn from. The director was interested in combining the styles of Commedia dellëArte, farce, and the flavor and rhythm of the 1970s. One of the main similarities discussed was the similarity of The Grouch to 1970s sitcoms.
